On the eve of the scheduled U.S.-Russia presidential meeting, European leaders on August 10 issued a joint statement in Brussels reaffirming their unwavering support for Ukraine. The EU Commission President and several prime ministers stressed that “no just and lasting peace can be achieved without Ukraine’s participation” and warned that any land-for-peace proposal would undermine international law and regional security.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded the same day, vowing that Ukraine would never relinquish any territory and expressing gratitude to European allies for their security and economic assistance. He called for Ukraine’s position to be fully represented in the upcoming international negotiations.
Analysts note that this joint stance is not only a show of political support but also a diplomatic move aimed at influencing the upcoming U.S.-Russia talks, ensuring Europe’s voice in shaping the future security architecture.
